Thin Lips

Having thin lips might be a result of your genetics, but they can also be a sign of ageing and are most definitely a concern for many people. As we age, our lips will often lose their volume and become noticeably thinner. Because our lips are the focal point of the face, this can make you look old before your time.

Why Are My Lips Thinner Than They Used To Be?

The development of thinner lips over time is most likely a result of a loss of collagen. As collagen production slows down, our lips will lose their shape and appear less plump and full. The sun’s rays will also have a detrimental effect on our lips, affecting them just as they do the rest of our skin.

In addition to these factors, bone density can also contribute to thinning lips. As bone density decreases, a more ‘hollow’ appearance is created due to our bone structure being unable to support the lips as well as it once did. This also causes the lips to roll inward.

My Mouth Is Less Defined Than It Used To Be Too – Is This Why My Lips Are Thinner?

General ageing and thin lips often go hand in hand. Fine lines will start to appear around the mouth as the lips become thinner and flatter, which ages the face significantly. The loss of volume in the lips can quickly create a less defined profile and a sullen countenance, even if you’re a generally happy person.

Yet, even though reduced lip definition is a natural sign of ageing, you can still do something about it.

How Can Thin Lips Be Treated?

Thin lips can be treated with dermal fillers. These incredibly popular injectables are a reliable and effective way of creating fuller lips. Dermal fillers are often made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body to help to keep your skin plump. Hyaluronic acid produces safe and natural results whilst restoring your lips to their former glory.

If you feel you would benefit from dermal fillers, a member of our team will talk you through the results you would like to achieve and select an appropriate amount of filler to use to create that look. We pride ourselves on our ability to give our patients natural results. If you would like a look that is less natural, we might not be the best provider for you.

As long as you are over the age of 18, there’s no reason as to why you wouldn’t be able to get treatment for thin lips. This isn’t just a concern that is tied to ageing.

You will be able to see some immediate results following your treatment. You may also experience some mild swelling and bruising, but this is likely to fade in the days following your treatment. It can take up to 2 weeks for the filler to settle.

You will be able to enjoy fuller lips for approximately 6-8 months. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occuring substance in the body, therefore it will get broken down over time.

At Yew Tree Dental Care, our team is highly experienced in the delivery of aesthetics treatments. We’ll work closely with you to understand the results you want to achieve, discussing your options in detail to ensure you’re fully informed and happy with the treatment you decide to undergo.
